20 week ultrasound images

Finally getting to this.  These are a little creepy, but since we did not want to know the sex, the sonographer refrained from taking full-body images.  So we got some head shots.  There are pics of the feet, arms, and spinal column, but I have not gotten around to having those scanned in.  So here are some glamour shots of our little one!

20 weeks, that head doesn't look too big???

Having an ultrasound was something that Janis and I discussed for a long time. None of our parents had ultrasounds with us unless needed and my midwife, does not suggest having them unless it is medically necessary.  Our insurance covers one, so we had our one little peak at Peanut.  I have to admit, it was worth all of the research and agonizing over.  It was so amazing to see the baby squirming around in there.  And wow, did this kid squirm!  The sonographer had a hard time making measurements, the baby was so active.  Based on the measurements that were finally made, Peanut is in the 77th percentile (not such a peanut, 50th is average).  If the measures are based on low elevation averages in the US, then we have a monster high country baby on the way!!!  Thanks to the Putelis genes and maybe some from my mom's side.

Peanut has gotten more and more active over the past few weeks (we are almost 22 weeks now) and is getting into a pretty set playtime schedule.  Up around 6am and down for most of the night by 11pm, not too bad!  S/he is not big enough to wake me up at night with kicking, so I am not sure what kind of night schedule we will be on yet.  I am sure Peanut will let me know pretty soon.

Feisty baby

Who would have guessed this kid would be a little feisty, not me??  I often get a little tired in the afternoons after staring at graphs, numbers, and pages of jargon for too many hours and will take a break and either exercise or lie down.  Today was a lie down kind of day, so I went up to my room and grabbed the fetoscope to see if I could find the baby's heartbeat.  A fetoscope is just a stethoscope with a horn on the end that amplifies the sounds so we can hear that little heart earlier.  Janis has been able to hear it, but I am still having trouble and can only hear my own heartbeat.  The baby has been lying with head on the left and legs on the right almost the entire time since I starting feeling movement.  Kicks on the far right and small punches on the middle.  I put the fetoscope in the middle since I am assuming the little chest is there and felt a little punch.  Did not think anything of it, moved to the next spot, same thing.....hmm.  I put the scope where the feet are and got a nice strong kick right where the horn pressed in.  I kept testing it and sure enough I would get a punch or a kick right at the spot where I put the horn.  So strong I could hear it in the scope.  So this kid is either gonna be really good at sports or s/he is gonna be a bit of handful, maybe both!  The propensity for sports comes from Janis the propensity for stubbornness, I thought would come from me, but the more little snippets I get from Janis's mom are suggesting otherwise.  Rottenness could come from both of us!!  Guess I better try to eat as many brussel sprouts and as much broccoli as I can while the baby does not have a choice!

18.5 weeks and something to show, really!

Okay, so I have had a few, more than a few, folks giggle at my attempts to show some baby belly in past posts, but I think we have something to show now.  Really!  I have been feeling great, other than a little stress from work.  No worries, I am trying to keep it to a minimum and still making sure to exercise as much as needed to keep me sane.  Also trying to squeeze in a little relaxing time when I can.  Sorry, I am not very photogenic.....

19 WEEKS!

Baby is extremely active in the morning, I am thinking it could be listening to NPR, but it is likely just my changes in movement and waking up.  No matter, I can feel lots of movement and have been able to feel the movements on the outside with my hands for a few weeks now.  Janis was able to feel movement for the first time this morning.  Pretty exciting for all three of us!!
